Jour 26: Cayo Levisa

Day 26: Cayo Levisa

I get up very early. I have breakfast and leave at 7:00 in the morning to discover breathtaking landscapes.

The climbs follow one after the other. Fortunately, after the climbs there are the descents. Everything that goes up must one day come down.

Riding my bike in the morning is pure bliss. Not only is the temperature cool, but it allows me to observe people's morning routines. Here is a first example.

Here is a man carrying boards using bovine power.

These horses drinking as a family.

These landscapes that never stop changing kilometer after kilometer.

This church has survived several trials.

These landscapes make me thirsty. I finally find the most incredible drink in Cuba "el guarapo". This fantastic elixir is the juice extracted from sugar cane that is crushed in a machine specially designed for this purpose. The price of guarapo is only 1 Cup (5 cents).

A short day of cycling of 73 km.

Watch my bike ride on Strava:

I find a small room in Palma Rubia for 25 Cuc (25 Usd) with dinner included.

Then I take a ferry to Cayo Levisa. I paid 35 CUC (35$ USD) for a round trip to this beautiful island. I meet Isabel, a retired Catalan woman who speaks very good French.

Cayo Levisa is a small island with turquoise water and white sand. I take the opportunity to swim a little and get some sun.

The island is a 30-minute boat ride away. On the way back, I witnessed perhaps my last sunset of 2017. It was beautiful and it was free.

I return to Palma Rubia to join my room for dinner. I meet Daniel and Denise, two Germans, we spend the evening chatting.

It was, once again, a very beautiful day.
